Michelangelo worked on several inventions during his career, but normally as an illustrator hired to bring someone else's ideas to life.

Michelangelo was not an inventor in his own right in the way that fellow Renaissance artist, Leonardo da Vinci was.

The great Renaissance master should be considered more of an innovator than an inventor, offering new perspectives and ideas in all the mediums in which he was involved, such as drawing, architecture, painting and sculpture.

Many people studying the Renaissance era will compare Michelangelo with Leonardo da Vinci as these were the two major contributors to this period.

One of the major differences between the two would be where Da Vinci invented several items which were later to be realised, whilst Michelangelo did not. Their contributions in other areas like architecture and painting were more similar.
